Elon Musk said that his artificial intelligence startup xAI has ended its existing cooperation with Oracle to expand its GPU rental agreement and will turn to using its own GPU resources to train its artificial intelligence models.
Before this, Elon MuskdiscloseThe company purchased 10 NVIDIA H100 GPUs to build a large-scale supercomputer training cluster. The company ended its existing GPU leasing agreement with Oracle and expanded it, mainly hoping to gain autonomy and accelerate its development into a faster-growing artificial intelligence company.
xAI has previously reached an agreement with Oracle to complete the training of the Grok 2.4 artificial intelligence model through 100 NVIDIA H2 GPUs provided by Oracle Infrastructure Services, and plans to launch it as early as August after fine-tuning and bug fixes.
However, Elon Musk still emphasized that Oracle is a great company. xAI originally planned to spend $100 billion to reach an agreement with Oracle to train its artificial intelligence model through Oracle's infrastructure services, but did not disclose the content and duration of the cooperation agreement between the two parties.
xAI contracted for 24k H100s from Oracle and Grok 2 trained on those. Grok 2 is going through fine tuning and bug fixes. Probably ready to release next month.
xAI is building the 100k H100 system itself for the fastest time to completion. Aiming to begin training later this month.…
