OneXPlayer has officially launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for its upcoming flagship Windows handheld gaming console, the OneXFly Apex. Targeting the high-end market seeking ultimate performance, the console has a suggested retail price starting at $1399 (approximately NT$44900), almost equivalent to a mid-range custom PC.
The OneXFly Apex not only features high-end specifications such as an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor and up to 128GB of memory, but also attempts to differentiate itself in the already saturated handheld gaming market with its unique 85Wh external removable battery and optional liquid cooling module.
85Wh detachable external battery
One of the biggest highlights of the OneXFly Apex is its external battery design with a capacity of up to 85Wh. Although the OneXPlayer has not yet announced specific playtime, this capacity far exceeds the built-in batteries of most handheld consoles currently on the market.
Its design supports quick plug-in/plug-out (spare battery sold separately), allowing players to replace the battery immediately when it runs out of power, or to continue playing by directly connecting the power cord when the battery is low.
AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, up to 128GB memory
In terms of core specifications, the OneXFly Apex uses the Windows operating system and can be equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor and up to 128GB of memory.
In terms of storage, it has a built-in storage capacity of up to 4TB, and can be further expanded by 4TB through the mini SSD slot and micro SD memory card slot, achieving a total storage configuration of up to 8TB.
Optional liquid cooling module, drift-free Hall effect joystick
To address the heat dissipation challenges posed by the high-end chips operating within the small size of the handheld device, the OneXPlayer uniquely offers an optional liquid cooling module (for an additional $60).
To make its high price more convincing, the handheld console also incorporates high-end configurations in its control components, including non-contact capacitive joysticks that are said to never drift, and Hall triggers that support switching between long and short travel.
