After announcing that users can have more control over their personal data, Google has recently taken another step towardsMake an update, allowing users to store timeline data such as areas and attractions they have visited directly on the device and protect it in encrypted form.
In addition to maintaining the requirement that users must manually turn on location history (off by default) before the system activates the timeline recording function, this update also adds a design that automatically deletes records after they exceed 3 months, which is shorter than the previous 18-month retention period. Users can even choose to remove the recorded content immediately.
In this adjustment, the system will also store location record data on the device side, instead of maintaining the previous practice of storing data in the cloud. In addition, you can directly click on the blue dot on the map to confirm timeline content such as past visit records, and you can directly adjust the records, such as removing specific location search, visit or sharing records to avoid being known by others.
This updated feature will be released in the coming weeks and is expected to be available for Android and iOS versions, but the function of storing timeline data directly on the device will not be available until 2024.
