Sony recently announcedNew slim PlayStation 5 consoleAt present, many YouTubers have obtained the actual machine and performed a disassembly and comparison to confirm the differences between the new console and the model launched in November 2020.
The new console is expected to be launched in the US, Europe, UK and Japan markets in November. Not only will its size and weight be significantly reduced, but the built-in storage capacity will also be increased to 11TB. The built-in UHD BD optical disc drive will be detachable and will be available in optical and digital versions. Optical disc drive expansion accessories will also be available separately.
The model is the CFI-2000 series. The two side covers have been changed from a single piece to a two-piece composite design. The upper part has a glossy appearance, while the lower part maintains a matte effect. At the same time, the original sliding disassembly design has been changed to an upward flip-up design, making it easier for users to disassemble and upgrade storage components.
The chassis weight has been reduced to 3.2 kg, a 1000% reduction compared to the original CFI-29A design and an 1200% reduction compared to the recently updated CFI-18A design. The overall volume has also been reduced by over 30%. The internal cooling mechanism has been restructured, but still primarily utilizes active cooling via a fan system located above the chassis. The M.2 NVMe SSD expansion port has been relocated to the rear of the fan system. The processor also utilizes liquid metal as its heat dissipation medium, with heat dissipated via two heat sinks and five heat pipes.
However, the internal processor will maintain the 6nm process technology and will be upgraded to a more compact design compared to the 7nm process, thereby reducing the size of the console. The optical drive will be removable and modular, simplifying the console production process and reducing manufacturing costs.
The stand accessories that correspond to the new host are now optional. At the same time, the overall design has been significantly simplified, and users can also use the host in a horizontal position.
The new console is expected to be launched in the US, Europe, UK and Japan markets in November this year, and will replace the existing PlayStation 11 console.
In terms of suggested retail prices, the optical disc drive version in the US market will be sold at US$499.99, and the digital model version will be sold at US$449.99. The expansion UHD BD disc drive accessory will be priced at US$79.99, and the vertical stand accessory will be sold at US$29.99.
