The Taiwan Automobility Research Consortium (TARC), established with support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Department of Industrial Technology's Technology Project, showcased 4 innovative achievements in artificial intelligence and electrification applications at the Taiwan International Smart Mobility Show today (April 23rd). The exhibition, which brought together Taiwanese entities and 28 manufacturers, showcased 18 innovative achievements in artificial intelligence and electrification applications. In addition to showcasing the R&D achievements of these entities, the exhibition also emphasized the implementation of these technologies and their application in the industrial supply chain, demonstrating Taiwan's R&D capabilities and industry competitiveness in the field of smart automotive electronics, and actively promoting the advancement of smart mobility technology.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs' Department of Industrial Technology and Innovation stated that artificial intelligence technology has advanced rapidly in recent years. Its application in autonomous vehicles will lead a new wave of development in the smart automotive and electronics industry, a focus of this year's TARC theme pavilion. Highlights include the "Level 3 Artificial Intelligence Self-Driving and Cybersecurity Integration System," developed by the Vehicle Center in collaboration with leading players in Taiwan's smart driving industry chain. This system integrates three major AI systems (smart driving, smart cockpit, and smart security) to create the world's first Level 3 self-driving electric bus that meets international standards, elevating the increasingly widespread smart driving technology to a higher level.

To address the challenges of limited electricity and space resources at bus terminals during the electric bus rollout, ITRI's pioneering "Smart Charging Management and Dispatch System" combines intelligent control and flexible scheduling technologies. This system has successfully helped Chunghwa Bus accurately allocate charging opportunities at bus terminals, improving space utilization efficiency. It also supports multiple interfaces, facilitating flexible dispatch of electric fleets and helping operators effectively improve operational efficiency. Both technologies were recognized with the 2025 Edison Awards, demonstrating that Taiwan's automotive electronics research achievements have received international recognition.

The vehicle center's "Level 3 Artificial Intelligence Self-Driving and Cybersecurity Integration System" integrates the expertise of Taiwan's smart driving industry chain, including Elan Corporation, Otem Electronics, Weisheng Technology, ASUS, DFI, Zhiyi Technology, Chimei In-Vehicle Electronics, and Asahi. Through image recognition and radar perception technology, it enables autonomous cruising, lane changing, and obstacle avoidance, complying with the UN R157 autonomous driving standard and effectively reducing the risk of traffic accidents by 90%.

Furthermore, the smart cockpit monitors the driver's condition in real time through facial and body gestures. If the driver determines they are unable to control the vehicle, the system will automatically park the vehicle and notify the backend to ensure safe driving. It also features connected car security protection and OTA remote software updates to ensure system stability. By building a domestic Level 3 self-driving supply chain, the company aims to enter the international smart vehicle market in the future.

The "Smart Charging Management and Dispatch System" exhibited by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) revolutionizes traditional charging methods. It is the world's first innovative application of fleet charging dispatch to address smart city energy management. Through intelligent control, precise energy conservation, and safety protection, it significantly reduces the contracted capacity of electricity stations, saving approximately 30% of manpower and operating costs, while also extending battery life and improving charging efficiency and safety. This system automatically schedules the optimal charging time based on each vehicle's power level, route, and schedule, and provides artificial intelligence remote monitoring to prevent risks such as overheating and short circuits. It has been successfully implemented in large-scale electric vehicle charging stations at Chunghwa Bus, comprehensively improving the operational efficiency of electric vehicle fleets.

China Motor Corporation also exhibited the ET90, Taiwan's first mass-produced 3.5-ton smart electric commercial vehicle. From the chassis to the powertrain to the battery cells, all are designed and manufactured by Taiwanese manufacturers, achieving a localized production rate of over 35%. Key technologies and components were jointly developed by the Vehicle Center, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the automotive electronics supply chain. Equipped with a domestically produced ADAS Level 2 active safety system, connected vehicles, and a cloud data platform, the ET2025 aims to assist businesses in their low-carbon transition and provide integrated smart logistics solutions. Mass production is expected to begin in the third quarter of XNUMX.
