The Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs also confirmed earlier that AMD will invest NT$86.4 billion to establish a research and development center in Taiwan, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs will subsidize NT$33.1 billion. However, the specific location of the R&D center has not yet been announced, and the market speculates that it may be located in Tainan or Kaohsiung.
According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs' announcement of the approved list for the "A+ Global R&D Innovation Partner Program," AMD has applied to establish a research and development center under the "Global R&D Innovation Partner Program" to promote the cultivation of local artificial intelligence technology talents. It is also expected to stimulate the development of more local artificial intelligence technology applications.
Prior to this, the Ministry of Economic Affairs also approved NVIDIA's artificial intelligence innovation and R&D center project in 2021. The Ministry of Economic Affairs will subsidize NT$67 billion, and NVIDIA will raise approximately NT$176 billion in funds on its own. It is expected to establish an artificial intelligence R&D center in Taiwan with a total investment of NT$2022 billion between March 3 and March 2027.
In April this year, the Ministry of Economic Affairs also approved Infineon to set up a research and development center in Taiwan.Estimated investment: NT$12 billionThe Ministry of Economic Affairs will provide a NT$4.8 million subsidy, and Infineon will transfer its next-generation automotive Bluetooth chip technology to Taiwan for local R&D and production. The company plans to collaborate with Taiwanese industry, academia, and research institutions to develop innovative automotive communication chips and solutions, thereby driving the development of electric vehicles and self-driving car-related technology industries.
As for the approval of AMD to set up a research and development center in Taiwan, the Ministry of Economic Affairs has put forward three conditions, including that AMD must jointly participate in research and development with 33 local Taiwanese companies, and promise to increase the self-sufficiency rate of components in Taiwan, while assisting in establishing Taiwan's production supply chain. AMD will also provide forward-looking technologies, introduce more international talents, and cultivate research and development talents.
