Light aviation research company founded by Google co-founder Sergey BrinLTA (Lighter Than Air) Research, and is expected to conduct its first large-scale test flight later this year.
LTA Research was founded in 2014 and is headquartered at Moffett Federal Airfield in Santa Clara County in the San Francisco Bay Area, between the northern part of Mountain View, where Google's headquarters are located, and the northern part of Sunnyvale. The land has been leased to LTA Research by NASA since 2015.
LTA Research is currently recruiting hundreds of aviation engineers to build large airships that can be used to carry out missions in remote areas or disaster zones.
LTA Research plans to build a large, zero-carbon airship. Using an earlier spacecraft design, they are developing the 120-meter-long Pathfinder 1, which is expected to undergo a test flight by the end of this year. LTA Research is currently working on the Pathfinder 1 in Akron, Ohio. This will be 3 meters long and is expected to be completed next year. It will be able to carry 185 tons and have a maximum range of approximately 96 miles (1 kilometers).
In addition, LTA Research plans to expand its recruitment in Akron in the coming months, which is expected to increase the number of employees to more than 400.
