As previously rumored, Apple will definitely not launch a mini model this year. Instead, it will be replaced by the iPhone 14 Plus with the "Plus" name, which will be paired with the standard iPhone 14 to attract more consumers.
Similar to previous product settings, the iPhone 14 Plus and the standard iPhone 14 differ only in the screen body size. The rest of the configurations are the same, except for the 6.7-inch and 6.1-inch screen sizes.
In terms of the screen, both iPhones use Apple's customized OLED display panel with a maximum brightness of up to 1200nits. The surface is also covered with super-ceramic glass for protection, and the bangs design is maintained. It supports the TrueDepth facial recognition unlocking function. As for the body, it is available in black, white, blue, purple and red styles, and also supports the same car accident detection function as the Apple Watch Series 8.
The processor uses an enhanced version of the A15 Bionic, which includes a 5-core GPU for higher computing performance. As for the camera, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus use a 1200-megapixel video lens with autofocus support. The main camera also has a 1200-megapixel lens. The wide-angle lens uses a 1.9μm pixel area design to capture more light. With the support of the Photonic Engine, the main camera improves low-light shooting performance by approximately 49%, and the video lens can improve low-light shooting performance by 38%.
At this "Far Out" themed event, Apple confirmed that it will add satellite emergency call services to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. When the base station network signal cannot be connected, the iPhone 14 can directly connect to the low-orbit satellite signal in an open area and send a call for help through an intuitive menu click method. However, this is obviously not the satellite communication networking function previously speculated.
The satellite emergency call service is currently scheduled to launch in November of this year, initially only in the United States and Canada. The rollout in other regions may depend on local regulations. Regarding pricing, Apple will offer a two-year free trial with models like the iPhone 11, but has not yet clarified how future pricing will be implemented.
As for the use of SIM cards, Apple confirmed that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus sold in the United States will cancel the physical SIM card slot design and will further promote the eSIM usage model. At the same time, more self-transfer eSIM functions will be added to the new version of the iOS operating system. Models sold in other markets will continue to provide a physical SIM card slot.
