Ferrari's first all-electric model is expected to be officially named "Luce" (Italian for "light"); its previous codename was...powerAlthough the full design won't be revealed until May of this year, Ferrari has previewed the space designed by Jony Ive's design firm, LoveFrom.Car interior decoration.
This is not only Ferrari's first electric car, but also possibly our closest chance to the original "Apple Car" – full of glass, aluminum, and an extreme obsession with the "squircle".
When iPhone design language meets Italian supercars
The interior design of the Luce has a strong Jony Ive style, especially the precision industrial feel of the iPhone 4 era.
The LoveFrom team used over 40 pieces of Corning Gorilla Glass in the car's interior, applied to micro-lenses from around the gearshift to the dashboard. The metal components are anodized aluminum, and the car is available in gray, dark gray, and rose gold—doesn't that sound a bit like choosing an iPhone?
But the most surprising interactive design lies in the "key." Luce's car key is embedded in a yellow e-paper (E Ink) panel. When the key is inserted into the magnetic slot on the center console, the yellow on the key gradually darkens, as if "transmitting" energy and life to the glowing glass gear shifter. This kind of ritualistic detail is Jony Ive's forte.
Going against the grain: Rejecting full touch control and rediscovering the feel of mechanical devices.
While Tesla spearheaded the trend of "big screens eliminating physical buttons," Jony Ive and his partner Marc Newson went against the grain, believing that modern cars had lost the captivating "tactility" of old Ferraris. Therefore, the Luce's interior retained a large number of physical control elements.
• The fusion of mechanics and digital:The dashboard consists of two stacked Samsung OLED display panels with a physical pointer sandwiched in between, serving as a "pseudo-tachometer" for this engineless sports car.
• Physical knobs and levers:The air conditioning vents make a crisp clicking sound when they turn on and off, while the paddle shifters behind the steering wheel provide excellent feedback. There's even a small dial with a magnifying glass for controlling the windshield wipers.
• Movable central control:It features a 10.12-inch OLED display with a punch-hole design in the center, and the entire unit can even be rotated and moved.
