Maharashtra, known as "India's economic growth engine" and one of India's 28 states, recently proposed to Gogoro a "Super Project" cooperation agreement through Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The agreement includes the manufacturing of Gogoro smart electric scooters and smart batteries, the deployment of battery swap stations, and the construction of an open and convenient energy infrastructure in Maharashtra starting at the end of 2023.
This "super project" will be one of the largest electric vehicle investments in India's history, with an eight-year investment plan in the first phase. The Maharashtra government will provide financial subsidies to reward Gogoro for investing more than US$8 million in smart battery manufacturing and US$5 billion in battery swap infrastructure.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "Maharashtra is leading India's move towards electrification and sustainable urban transportation, and is collaborating with industry leader Gogoro to build a complete smart battery ecosystem. As part of the 'Super Project,' Gogoro will manufacture smart vehicles, smart batteries, and battery swap stations in Maharashtra, and deploy world-leading energy infrastructure, creating approximately 1 jobs."
Gogoro plans to deploy open and accessible smart energy infrastructure in Maharashtra. This infrastructure will not only serve as a primary source of mobility and energy storage, but will also create jobs in smart energy, electric vehicles, and sustainable supply chains. Furthermore, Gogoro expects to attract further foreign investment in Maharashtra's supply chain and smart energy infrastructure.
By partnering with the Maharashtra government to pioneer the introduction of Gogoro smart electric scooters, smart batteries, and battery swap stations in India, we will establish a robust global and local supply chain ecosystem, enabling simultaneous domestic market growth and international expansion. "There is no time to lose in transforming our industry and infrastructure to usher in a new era of clean, smart mobility," said Gogoro Founder and CEO Xuesen Luke. "We are pleased to partner with the Maharashtra government to accelerate the transformation of urban transportation and build a better future for people and businesses."
The battery swap infrastructure in Maharashtra is expected to begin deployment by the end of 2023, leveraging the Gogoro Smart Energy ecosystem, including battery swap sites, battery swap technology, and energy management solutions. It will also bring diverse technological innovations to smart city planning, energy storage sites and systems, shared mobility services, smart electric scooters, grid demand response services, and distributed energy storage.
