Previously proposed by NASAPLATE (Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog) project, and carried out the first project on June 2023, 6. After 25 days of simulated life, the first wave of 378 volunteers who participated in this project finallyWill exit the simulation.
美國太空總署預計在美國東岸時間7月7日下午5點 (台灣時間7月8日凌晨5點)以直播方式呈現4名志願者從模擬環境離開實況,可透過以下直播影片進行觀看。
The four volunteers are Kelly Haston, Anca Selariu, Ross Brockwell and Nathan Jones. Since late June last year, they have been living in a 4-square-foot (about 6 square meters) 1700D-printed building in Houston, Texas, which simulates the living environment on Mars. This is to help assess the possible impact on the astronauts' physical health and activity performance when living and performing work missions on Mars.
Assisting NASA members include Steve Koerner, Deputy Director of NASA Astronauts and Deputy Director of Flight Operations Kjell Lindgren, as well as Grace Douglas, Principal Investigator of the CHAPEA program, Judy Hayes, Chief Scientist of the Human Health and Performance Directorate, and Julie Kramer White, Director of Engineering.
After the simulation is over, NASA will use the various situations and data from the simulated lives of these four volunteers over the past 4 days to estimate and revise preparations for actual living on Mars in the future.
NASA is already recruiting volunteers for the second CHAPEA project, though the exact launch date has not yet been confirmed, with the projected launch date being spring 2025. Recruitment will also be paid.
