In order to strengthen the EU's satellite application development advantages, it also cooperates with SpaceX's Starlink and Amazon's Project Kuiper.Satellite Internet ServiceTo compete, the European Commission, together with a consortium of French companies Eutelsat, Spanish companies Hispasat and Luxembourg-based satellite service provider SES, formed the SpaceRISE collaboration to build a space-based communications system with a secure internet environment through a licensing agreement.Named "Iris²".
Iris² will form a multi-orbital network of nearly 300 satellites. The European Commission expects that through this project, even remote areas within the EU will enjoy convenient Internet services, while also promoting more EU independent development strategic projects.
In terms of structure, "Iris²" is a service built in collaboration between government agencies and private institutions, with an estimated funding of 106 billion euros (about 111 billion US dollars) to create a secure and seamless network environment for military, defense and diplomatic use.
The EU will sign a 12-year licensing agreement with SpaceRISE to compete with satellite communications services currently driven mainly by US companies.
