The Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) announced earlier thatMatter 1.2 connection specification, adding connected devices including vacuum robots, refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, air quality sensors, air purifiers, indoor air conditioners, and fans, and further supporting more large home appliances, allowing users to integrate more IoT devices through the Matter connection specification.
This update will also enable more devices to respond to more advanced control functions, such as adding temperature control or operation mode adjustment to air conditioners and fans, and operating water supply, drainage, temperature setting and error troubleshooting functions for dishwashers, and even provide cleaning progress notifications for washing machines.
Compared with the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA)HCA Interface SpecificationMatter mainly operates through C2C cloud docking. It claims to be able to communicate directly on the device side, and does not necessarily need to go through the cloud to operate. It can even speed up the connection response speed between devices through edge computing. For example, if the temperature sensor detects that the home temperature is too high, it can automatically turn on the air conditioner or turn on the fan to reduce the indoor temperature.
Currently, companies including Amazon, Apple, Google, and Samsung have announced their support for the Matter protocol. At the same time, many brands such as Yeelight and Xiaomi have also stated that they will add support for the Matter protocol to their new products, allowing more devices to connect with each other and be controlled through a single software interface.
The announcement of adding support for more device categories, including many large home appliances, seems to mean that the Connectivity Standards Alliance will use this to make Matter the main connectivity specification in the market, thereby competing with the specifications proposed by the Home Connectivity Alliance. As for the proposed Matter 1.2 specification, it is expected that related application products will not be seen until 2024. After all, the devices that actually support the Matter connection specification are still limited. Not too much.
