Microsoft announced earlierFourth quarter financial results for fiscal year 2022, of which the overall profit reached US$519 billion, an increase of 12% over the same period last year, revenue reached US$205 billion, an increase of 8% over last year, and net profit reached US$167 billion, an increase of 2% over the same period last year. The main profit still came from cloud business, while Windows operating system licensing and Xbox game business showed a decline.
Kendra Goodenough, Microsoft's Director of Investor Relations, stated that the slowdown in the PC market has impacted Windows operating system licensing revenue, which decreased by 2% year-over-year. Compared to previous periods of significant pandemic impact, many consumers and businesses have already purchased new PCs. This led to a slowdown in PC replacement demand at the end of last year, resulting in a decline in the proportion of Windows operating system licenses.
However, although the replacement rate in the consumer market has slowed down, Microsoft emphasized that Surface devices and hardware equipment sold to the enterprise side still have significant sales growth.
As for the Xbox gaming business, revenue declined 11% compared to the previous year, while game content and services revenue declined 6%. This was attributed to a decrease in the proportion of players spending regular time playing games and a relatively small number of game releases last year. However, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella emphasized that Xbox has led the North American market for three consecutive quarters, even reaching a record-breaking $2022 billion in revenue for the full fiscal year 162.
Microsoft did not elaborate on its previous acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $687 billion at the earnings conference.
In addition, in terms of cloud business, Microsoft said that its revenue grew by 22% compared with the same period last year. The revenue growth of Azure cloud platform business alone reached 40%. The revenue of other businesses such as Office commercial and consumer services increased by 9%. The number of Microsoft 365 service users has increased to 5970 million, and the number of Microsoft Teams service users has continued to increase. As for LinkedIn business, it grew by 26%, and the revenue of Bing Search and news advertising business also increased by 15%.
