Autocar website obtained informationTesla's long-rumored low-priced entry-level car "Model 2" will be mass-produced in 2025 and will be priced below 2.5 pounds (approximately NT$100.9 million).
In previous statements, Elon Musk revealed that he would start building a third electric vehicle platform with the goal of reducing the cost of the new car to less than half of the Model 3 or Model Y, thereby hinting that he would launch a car priced below $3.
Tesla's model, codenamed "Redwood," is said to utilize a new production method that will reduce costs by up to 50%, coupled with next-generation battery technology. Sales are expected to exceed 7 million units over its lifecycle. Elon Musk has also revealed that this model will be smaller and is expected to surpass the combined sales of all Tesla models, becoming the first truly mass-market electric vehicle.
However, Elon Musk does not seem to be inclined to use Model 2 as the name of this car, and expressed his preference for alphabetical names.
Tesla expects to regain its leading position in electric vehicle sales by offering a more affordable model. Furthermore, the model is expected to begin initial production at Tesla's German factory, with plans to expand into the European market.
