Tesla Taiwan announced that it will showcase the Tesla Bot artificial intelligence robot at the Neihu Service Experience Center in Taipei starting today, and will also be stationed at the Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung Service Experience Centers starting October 10th, allowing Taiwanese people to see the Tesla Bot robot up close.
Tesla Bot, named "Optimus," is built with the appearance of a humanoid robot and learns how to walk on two feet by training the logic of self-driving cars.
In addition to leveraging extensive data to teach Tesla Bot how to walk, Tesla also captures natural human movements, enabling the robot to more naturally perform anthropomorphic actions. For example, when squatting, it naturally uses its upper body and hands to maintain balance. To enable the robot to seamlessly mimic human movements, Tesla further enhanced the support strength of the hinges and the corresponding tensile and support forces within each mechanism, emphasizing that a single mechanism can support and lift the weight of a classical piano.
Tesla uses a total of 40 motors in the robot, including 12 in the arms, 12 each in the wrists and feet, and 2 each in the neck and torso. The robot is powered by a 2.3kWh battery pack and runs on a Tesla custom processor. It supports Wi-Fi and LTE connections, which means the wrists can perform delicate movements like a human hand.
Tesla Bot will be able to perform human-like hand movements and move at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour while carrying a load of approximately 8.05 kilograms. It is 172.72 centimeters tall and weighs 56.7 kilograms. The price of each robot is planned to be controlled within US$2, so as to assist in a large number of repetitive production line work or enter more dangerous environments for exploration and other tasks.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk emphasized that robots will become an important development business in the future, even covering a huge range of application possibilities. He also revealed that the prototype design will be completed within this year and can be put into mass production as early as 2023.
In addition to Tesla launching humanoid robots in the hope of improving a large amount of repetitive and tedious work in factories or assisting in the performance of dangerous tasks, companies including Xiaomi and Boston Dynamic have also launched humanoid robots, even including quadruped robots and other designs.
