This land is not a complete piece, but was purchased in four parts. The largest piece is 644 hectares and the smallest piece is only 0.15 hectares.
Tesla didn't purchase the land directly, but rather through a company called Ecological Project Mario, run by former Tesla executives and others. The land deal appears to have been finalized in March 2024, but the land still needs to be approved by local authorities for the Gigafactory.
Tesla previously stated that it would expand its Gigafactories globally. It has already built four Gigafactories in the United States, Germany and China, and plans to expand to 10-12 Gigafactories, but this has been temporarily shelved due to some factors.
However, Tesla still seems to be interested in moving forward with its plan to build a Gigafactory in Mexico to increase vehicle production capacity.
