Tesla officially launched in the North American marketSolar powered vehicle charging functionAs long as the car owner installs a home charging station and a Powerwall energy storage system at home, and additionally uses solar panels from any brand, he can use the solar panels to charge the vehicle first, and the insufficient amount will be supplemented by the mains electricity.
Before this, many Tesla owners have tried to use DIY methods to make their vehicles rechargeable through solar energy. Obviously, Tesla also hopes to emphasize that its next-generation models have more flexible ways to recharge electricity. It even recently demonstratedConcept solar trailer design, thereby charging the Cybertruck electric truck through solar power generation.
However, the solar charging function announced this time not only requires the owner to have a home charging station and a Powerwall storage system, but also requires solar panels. It is only applicable to newer models released later. If the owner uses a Model S released between 2012 and 2020, or a Model X released between 2015 and 2020, it cannot be used.
Through the updated app, car owners can customize their vehicles to charge via both solar and mains electricity simultaneously, thereby speeding up power replenishment, and automatically switch to solar charging when a certain percentage is exceeded, or stop solar charging during specific periods of time.
Although this function currently does not restrict other brands from providing solar panels, the power storage system can only be used with Tesla's own products. This is mainly to ensure charging quality and avoid problems such as vehicle overcharging.
