To further expand its content monetization capabilities and retain creators, X today announced a major upgrade to its creator subscription platform. The most notable feature of this "Creator Subscriptions 2.0" initiative is a new feature called "Exclusive Threads." This feature allows creators to hide the latter half of long tweets, making them available only to paid subscribers.
Interestingly, the name of this new feature happens to be the same as that of Threads, owned by Meta, X's biggest text-based community rival. This not only shows a strong targeting of X but also sparked heated discussions.
Creator Subscriptions 2.0 is here: powerful new tools to grow your subscribers and earn more.

Make good use of "suspense": turn tweets into a funnel for paid subscriptions.
In the past, if creators on the X platform wanted to provide exclusive content, they could usually only lock the entire post behind a paywall for subscribers, which often made it difficult to motivate non-subscribers to pay.
The new "Exclusive Threads" tool completely changes these pain points. Creators can now publicly post the first part of a tweet (Thread) as a "trailer" or "introduction" to attract the attention and curiosity of a wide audience, and then set the most valuable or crucial ending part as a paid unlock.
According to the official X Creators account and screenshots shared by X product manager Nikita Bier, when a regular user reaches the paid section of a tweet, the system directly embeds a prominent "Subscribe" button within the post. X hopes that this suspenseful element of "wanting to know the ending halfway through" will generate enough appeal to encourage readers to become paid subscribers.
Creator Subscriptions 2.0: Fully Embracing the Creator Economy
"Exclusive Threads" is just one of a series of initiatives X has recently launched to attract content creators.
With the advancement of "Creator Subscriptions 2.0," X is striving to provide creators with more diverse and flexible monetization tools. For example, the platform recently launched the "Paid partnership" label for sponsored posts, making it more compliant with regulations when creators engage in sponsored content collaborations, while also making the platform's business ecosystem more transparent.
Analysis of viewpoints
X's new "Exclusive Threads" is a smart move in terms of product logic. It perfectly utilizes the narrative structure of long tweets (Threads) themselves, allowing creators to hide the most exciting "climax" or "solution" behind the paywall, much like a serialized novel. This has a higher conversion rate potential than a simple "all or nothing" paid subscription model.
The name "Exclusive Threads" not only aligns with Twitter's long-standing practice of referring to serialized tweets as "Threads," but also serves as X's undisguised humorous mockery of Meta.
While users worldwide are discussing Threads, X cleverly uses the term to signify its platform's premium paid features. However, the ultimate success of these monetization tools depends on X's ability to retain top creators with genuine content production capabilities, and whether general users are ready to pay for "single-item unlocking" or "subscription reading" on social media platforms.
