Nokia announced that it has been selected as a partner of Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) to provide mission-critical network solutions. TIAC will implement Nokia's IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multiple Protocol Label Switching) technology to comprehensively upgrade the existing communication infrastructure of Terminals 1 and 2, thereby enhancing the security, reliability, and operational efficiency of airport services.
Integrate voice, video, and critical maintenance data to reduce complexity.
This upgrade project is being implemented in collaboration with Taiwanese systems integrator HwaCom Systems. Through Nokia's IP/MPLS solution, Taoyuan International Airport will be able to integrate previously fragmented voice, data, and video communications, as well as key maintenance and operation technology services, including self-service check-in kiosks, baggage handling systems, Wi-Fi, and CCTV surveillance systems, onto a single network infrastructure.
This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the complexity and operating costs (OpEx) of network management, and through an end-to-end network and cybersecurity management platform, airports will be able to gain greater visibility into network performance and further optimize overall operations.
To handle a passenger volume of 4500 million, the third terminal is being planned for the future.
As Taiwan's busiest airport, Taoyuan International Airport's passenger volume in 2024 was already close to4500 peopleTo address the continued growth in passenger and cargo demand, and with Terminal 3 expected to commence operations in 2027, this network upgrade is seen as a key step in building "future-proof" infrastructure to support its goal of becoming a major regional transit hub.
Using routing equipment such as 7750 SR
In terms of hardware specifications, Nokia will deploy equipment including the 7750 Service Router, the 7250 Interconnect Routers, and the 7210 Service Access System. Meanwhile, Taoyuan International Airport will also adopt Nokia's Network Service Platform to assist the airport in achieving operational automation and simplification.
The director of the Information Department of Taoyuan International Airport Corporation stated that airport networks must possess extremely high security and reliability. The decision to partner with Nokia and China Telecom was based on their ability to ensure the project's timely execution. Stuart Hendry, Vice President of Enterprise Network Infrastructure for Nokia Asia Pacific, also emphasized that IP/MPLS solutions will help improve airport security and operational efficiency while reducing energy consumption.
