Sony launches the Venice Extension System Mini, enabling more portable and versatile filming options for professional filmmakers.
Sony has introduced the VENICE Extension System Mini for its cinema camera series, boasting a more compact and miniaturized design for 35mm full-frame E-mount cameras. It's only 70% the size of the previously released VENICE Extension System 2, with a front view size almost equivalent to a typical smartphone. The VENICE Extension System Mini weighs only 540 grams, and 1.05 kg with the PL cinema lens adapter. It features a VIENICE 2 8K image sensor and includes a mechanism for attaching ND filters. The camera automatically detects and adjusts the ND filter fit, allowing for compatibility with various lenses. The VENICE Extension System Mini's modular design allows for cable connection to VENICE 2 series cameras, enabling multi-camera shooting. Its smaller size also facilitates extended handheld shooting, makes it easier to position lenses in limited spaces, and allows for flexible mounting in different shooting positions. A more unique usage mode involves combining two VENICE Extension System Mini units side-by-side to capture stereoscopic images. The optical axis distance between the two systems when side-by-side is precisely the average 64mm distance between human eyes, resulting in an image that closely resembles human vision. Furthermore, multiple units can be connected to record 360-degree images, providing greater flexibility for film shooting. The VENICE Extension System Mini, along with its dedicated cable and extended ND filter, will be available in July of this year, with pricing provided by Sony's professional division based on demand.
