Spotify is adding video content to its content creation program, expanding its direct competition with YouTube.

Spotify recently changed its "Spotify for Podcasters" program, which primarily focused on podcast content creation, to "Spotify for Creators," allowing for the addition of video content, thereby expanding its direct competition with YouTube. Along with the program's adjustment, the new revenue model will also change starting January 2, 2025. Creators will be able to earn all advertising revenue through content uploaded to the program platform, or through direct donations from viewers. However, to achieve these revenue targets, creators must upload content through the "Spotify for Creators" program, achieve 10000 hours of streaming within 30 days, and at least 2000 unique views, while uploading at least 12 original pieces of content. The content subscription feature will be available to creators who upload at least two original pieces of content within 60 days and accumulate at least 100 unique listeners. The Spotify Clips feature, currently in beta testing, is expected to officially launch in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia in January next year. In addition, Spotify has also incorporated a new video format into the new plan, and also provides a vertical video format for short video services such as TikTok, making it easier for creators to share and spread their uploaded content across different social media services.
