Huawei unveiled the Pura X series, a foldable phone with a "widescreen" design that allows users to watch content in a 16:10 aspect ratio when unfolded.
After previously announcing the launch of the Pura series phones, which are "more than just phones" and run on the native HarmonyOS operating system, Huawei has now confirmed the launch of the Pura X series phones. These phones feature a foldable screen design. While using a vertical folding mechanism, the screen's aspect ratio widens to 16:10 when unfolded, and it must be rotated 90 degrees to function as a regular phone when folded. This design aims to expand the user experience of a traditional vertical foldable phone beyond simply "restoring" it to a standard canopy. The external screen is a 3.5-inch design with a 1:1 aspect ratio, 980 x 980 resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The internal screen is a 6.3-inch design with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 2120 x 1320 resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate, making it more convenient for using e-reader apps, watching videos, or playing games. The phone features an IPX8 waterproof design, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and weighs only 193.7 grams. It also boasts a glass back cover, with Huawei offering a collector's edition with a leather back cover. While processor details haven't been released, it's confirmed to have 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. The collector's edition offers an additional 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. The battery is a 4720mAh capacity, supporting 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging. It also supports DisplayPort 1.2 via USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, Wi-Fi 7, satellite calling, and Mob connectivity. The camera features a 1070-megapixel front-facing camera, a 5000-megapixel RYYB wide-angle lens, a 400-megapixel RYYB ultra-wide-angle lens, and an 800-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.5x zoom. It also includes a 150-megapixel multispectral "Red Maple" primary color lens for color calibration. The suggested retail price for the Pura X starts at RMB 7499, while the collector's edition starts at RMB 8999. Pre-orders in the Chinese market are open now.
