MediaTek launches new IoT platforms, Genio 720 and Genio 520, to meet the needs of generative AI applications

During Embedded World 2025 in Nuremberg, Germany, MediaTek announced its next-generation high-performance edge AI IoT platforms, the Genio 720 and Genio 520. These two Genio series products are designed for IoT devices in smart homes, smart retail, industrial, and commercial applications, supporting the latest generative AI models, human-machine interfaces (HMIs), multimedia, and communication functions. Wang Zhenguo, General Manager of MediaTek's IoT Business Unit, stated, "The Genio 720 and Genio 520 platforms bring powerful and energy-efficient generative AI computing capabilities to various IoT devices, ushering in a new era of IoT innovation and providing users with a smooth yet data-secure user experience. Furthermore, by integrating the NVIDIA TAO toolkit and other widely used AI models into edge AI applications, developers can extend their designs to various product applications, from smart retail displays to sophisticated industrial HMIs." The Genio 720 and Genio 520 feature edge computing performance, with their built-in MediaTek 8th generation NPU achieving up to 10 TOPS of computing power, providing full hardware acceleration for Transformer and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models. In addition, the Genio 720 and Genio 520 further enhance memory performance, supporting up to 16GB of LPPDR5 memory, thereby accelerating the execution of high-data-volume language models such as Llama, Gemini, Phi, and DeepSeek at the edge. Within MediaTek's global ecosystem, developers can leverage industry-leading global language models and universal frameworks to rapidly develop multimodal generative AI applications and accelerate time-to-market. Both the Genio 720 and Genio 520 are manufactured using a 6nm process, integrating an 8-core CPU, including two Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores and six Arm Cortex-A55 CPU cores, optimizing performance and energy efficiency. Their low-power characteristics cater to fanless and battery-powered mobile device designs. The Genio 720 and Genio 520 are also suitable for commercial displays, smart retail devices, human-machine interface applications, and other devices with multi-window or multi-interaction requirements. Furthermore, the single-platform hardware and software design allows developers to apply their development results to multiple terminal applications and easily customize designs to meet specific application needs.
