Samsung Galaxy Watch's "sleep apnea" detection function has been approved for use in Taiwan.

Samsung Galaxy Watch's "sleep apnea" detection function has been approved for use in Taiwan.

Samsung announced that its "Sleep Apnea Detection" feature in its Samsung Health Monitor app has been officially approved by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and is now available in the Taiwan market. This new feature supports Galaxy Watch4 series and later models, requiring a Galaxy smartphone running Android 12.0 or later. Users can enable this health monitoring function after updating the Samsung Health Monitor app. Detecting potential risks, the feature can monitor moderate to severe symptoms over two nights and four hours. According to Samsung, sleep apnea is a common but easily overlooked sleep disorder. During sleep, patients may experience pauses in breathing, leading to interrupted blood oxygen supply and decreased sleep quality. In the long term, it may increase the risk of complications such as high blood pressure, arrhythmia, and even stroke. This approved sleep apnea detection function is primarily for users aged 22 and older who have not yet been diagnosed with sleep apnea. With just two nights of continuous monitoring for at least four hours each time, the Galaxy Watch can detect moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea using its built-in optical blood oxygen sensor, helping users detect potential health risks early. The Galaxy Watch8 introduces an antioxidant index and is the first to feature Wear OS 6 and Gemini. In addition to sleep apnea detection, Samsung emphasizes the AI intelligence and health monitoring functions continuously integrated into the Galaxy Watch series, making it like a health hub on your wrist. Beyond the existing "Sleep Score" (analyzing sleep cycles, supporting snoring detection, and providing an electronic sleep coach) and "Vascular Load" monitoring, the latest Galaxy Watch8 series introduces an "Antioxidant Index" function. This function claims to quickly measure the concentration of carotenoids in the user's skin within 5 seconds and provides practical dietary improvement suggestions. Notably, the Galaxy Watch8 series is also the first to feature Wear OS...

Samsung's long-rumored three-screen folding phone "Galaxy G Fold" may be the finale of the next launch event

Samsung executives revealed that the rumored three-screen folding phone is expected to be launched by the end of 2025, but is still in the stage of perfecting usability

At the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event held in the second half of the year, Samsung did not reveal the rumored triple-screen foldable phone in the form of "One More Thing" as in the past. Instead, it simply announced three foldable screen phones, two smartwatches, and a smartwatch with an additional new color. However, Roh Tae-moon, head of Samsung's mobile communications business, stated in an interview with The Korea Times that the company aims to launch its first triple-screen foldable phone by the end of 2025, although the name may not be the rumored "Galaxy G Fold." Roh indicated that the phone is currently in the process of perfecting its usability, and the specific name has not yet been confirmed. He also did not reveal any specific details about the phone. Previously, market rumors suggested that Samsung's first triple-screen foldable phone would be called the "Galaxy G Fold" because a concept foldable screen design called "Flex G" had been previously showcased. This design involved the left and right screens folding inwards, forming a "G" shape when viewed from the bottom. The advantage of this design is that the inner screen surface can be protected from scratches due to the concave structure. For example, Huawei's previous "Z"-shaped foldable design made the outermost screen surface easily scratched. However, Roh's statement that the specific name may not be "Galaxy G" suggests a different story. The name "Fold" suggests that Samsung might use a more representative name for this phone, or that Samsung might adopt a completely different phone design. After all, in the previously showcased concept panel designs, Samsung has already invested in researching various types of foldable screen designs, including one that can be stretched to change the screen size. In the Chinese market, Transsion showcased its "PHANTOM Ultimate G Fold" phone design, which is still in the concept stage and also uses a double-sided inward-folding screen design. Therefore, market observers believe that Transsion will use this to compete with Samsung, and may even attract the market with a lower price. Perhaps Samsung, considering its future market strategy, will switch to other screen designs to avoid losing out in the price competition of foldable screen phones. ▲ (Image/Taken from Stuff website)

Not exclusive to Samsung watches! Gemini is also available on Wear OS smart watches from brands such as Pixel, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi

Following Samsung's unveiling of its new Galaxy Waych 8 series smartwatches and announcement of a collaboration with Google to integrate Gemini AI applications, Google also announced that its Gemini AI applications will be available on its Pixel Watch series, as well as Wear OS smartwatches from brands like OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, bringing a more natural and intuitive voice interaction experience. Gemini can run the same AI model on Wear OS smartwatches as on smartphones, supporting natural language understanding and personalized responses, providing instant and life-oriented services. Users can wake it up with "OK, Google," long-press the side button, or directly touch the Gemini icon to enjoy a smart assistant experience anytime, anywhere. Empowering everyday tasks with AI, turning your wrist into an information hub, Gemini supports diverse life application scenarios. For example, when busy cooking in the kitchen, you can ask questions like "How many minutes to roast vegetables?" or "What temperature should I set the oven?" before heading out; easily check the weather before leaving the house: "Do I need an umbrella today?"; or during a trip, simply ask Gemini, "Where is the coffee shop Emily mentioned in the email?" to get instant directions and save on tedious steps. The Gemini can also connect with services like Gmail and Google Calendar, transforming the watch from a notification tool into a proactive assistant for managing your life. For example, you can send messages via voice during a workout, create playlists, quickly summarize emails, and organize your calendar, improving efficiency. Recording trivial matters and setting reminders makes managing life's details easy. The Gemini can also remember personal details, such as gym locker numbers and parking space locations, for easy reference and to prevent forgetting. It also supports instant reminders, such as shopping reminders after work, making AI a truly helpful assistant. This feature is expected to be gradually supported on smartwatches running Wear OS 4 and above. Future upgrades to Wear OS 6 will offer even more advanced integration capabilities, combining with various brands' proprietary applications to enhance the smart experience of wearable devices. The introduction of the Gemini to smartwatches signifies Google's continued expansion of AI capabilities to more everyday devices, strengthening the competitiveness of the Wear OS ecosystem and further deepening the interaction between users and devices, making smart assistants not just tools on your phone, but truly intelligent partners integrated into every aspect of life.
