Ecosia, the search engine that helps plant a tree for every 45 searches, has been integrated into the Chrome browser.

Since its founding in December 2009, Ecosia, a search engine that has dedicated 80% of its advertising revenue to rainforest conservation, recently announced that it will be added as a default search engine option in the Google Chrome browser. According to a previous statement from the Ecosia team, for every 45 searches on the Ecosia search engine, the team will plant a tree. They also emphasized that 80% of their advertising revenue generated through the search engine is used for rainforest conservation. This partnership with Google, making it a default search engine option in Chrome, is expected to attract more users and increase advertising revenue, thus enabling greater efforts to protect rainforests. Ecosia search engine founder Christian Kroll was inspired by the destruction of rainforests in South America during a trip there, leading him to decide to use technology to protect them. The Ecosia search engine combines search results from Microsoft Bing and Yahoo! Search Engines, optimizing the ranking of search results through its own software algorithms. While search engine operations often involve massive server and data center operations, leading to greater energy consumption, Ecosia's approach is to plant a tree for every 45 uses of its search engine, thus achieving carbon neutrality. Revenue generated from user clicks on ads is also used for rainforest conservation. In addition to being a default search engine option in Google Chrome, Ecosia has also previously developed a free, environmentally conscious web browser, EcoBrowser, using the Chromium architecture.
