Although Meitu previously announced a 30-year exclusive licensing agreement with Xiaomi, granting Xiaomi access to its brand and smart hardware technologies, it still rushed to announce the launch of its last phone of the year before the end of the year – the Meitu V7, which is also the phone product recently revealed to be a collaboration with the Lamborghini fashion brand Tonino Lamborghini. The Meitu V7 is Meitu's second phone this year. Continuing the design of last year's V6, the Meitu V7 uses a metal and leather composite material, featuring Italian top-grain calfskin and 18K gold-plated studs, emphasizing a luxurious style. It is available in two colors: Crimson Orange and Green Dream. The suggested retail price for the standard version is RMB 4799. A limited edition collaboration with Lamborghini, in addition to incorporating the Lamborghini family nameplate design, features a dedicated user interface and comes with accessories such as a fine leather case and a selfie remote control. The suggested retail price for this edition starts at RMB 8888, with the highest-end version priced at RMB 10888. In terms of hardware specifications, the V7 will be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The Tonino Lamborghini collaboration version will offer 256GB and 512GB of storage respectively. As for the camera, all models will feature a triple-lens front camera system consisting of a 12MP night-shooting lens, a 20MP main lens, and an 8MP depth-sensing lens. It emphasizes that it can capture clear facial images in dark scenes using artificial intelligence technology, and can even further enhance them. It can also shoot 3D-like visual effects using the triple-lens system, but this is expected to be added in a future update. The Meitu V7 limited edition, a collaboration with Lamborghini fashion brand Tonino Lamborghini, features a dual-lens main camera. While Meitu hasn't specified the exact specifications of the rear camera, it emphasizes optical and electronic image stabilization, and algorithms that enable users to capture super night scene images. It also includes composition assistance, fun filters, and a unique hand-drawn food photography effect, quickly converting food photos into hand-drawn images. Regarding smooth operation, Meitu utilizes its self-developed Zeus Boost engine, optimized for over 100 popular Chinese apps, allowing for smoother operation. The V7 is expected to be available in the Chinese market on January 8, 2019, while the limited edition with Tonino Lamborghini is expected to be available for pre-order in China starting December 24, and will also be available for sale in China on January 8, 2019. It's currently uncertain whether the V7 will be introduced to the Taiwan market, but the limited edition in collaboration with Tonino Lamborghini may not be launched there due to supply issues. Meitu's last-ditch effort in the mobile phone market: With its second mobile phone product launched before the end of the year, Meitu anticipates gradually transferring its mobile phone business to Xiaomi for design and sales starting next year. Coupled with the transfer of its beauty e-commerce platform to TryTry, this signifies Meitu's return to its original app service development. However, with more and more apps emphasizing beautification effects and its past attempts to integrate into online communities failing to yield concrete results, and with many potential replacements seemingly looming, Meitu's current stock price has evaporated by nearly 90%, reducing its overall market value by almost HK$80 billion, clearly facing significant challenges. Therefore, the V7 phone may be Meitu's last stand in the mobile phone market. Whether it can regain its former glory depends on whether Meitu can find a suitable path forward. The Meitu V7 offers special hand-drawn food effects.
