Meta also launched a mobile editing software called "Edits" to compete with CapCut, integrating AI functions that can automatically generate video effects.
Following Google's launch of YouTube Create, a video editing app designed to compete with services like CapCut for YouTube content creation, Meta recently announced "Edits," a new video editing app for Instagram content creation. "Edits" integrates its own shooting function, eliminating the need to switch to other shooting software. It can record up to 4K 60p HDR video without leaving watermarks and can also enhance video quality through algorithms. As for editing features, in addition to basic video editing functions, it includes numerous AI-powered editing effects, such as quick background removal, generating videos from still images, and even automatically focusing on specific people or objects. It also includes an interface that allows users to track the viewing performance of short videos shared on Instagram Reels. Meta's goal with "Edits" is not only to further attract more people to create short videos that can be shared on Instagram Reels, but also to compete with ByteDance's international version of CapCut. Currently, "Edits" is available on both Apple's App Store and Google Play Store, and is offered for free download. More features are planned for the future, but it is not yet confirmed whether a PC version of the editing tool will be launched, similar to CapCut.
