Samsung may launch its first three-sided foldable phone as early as early 2026

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultant (DSCC), revealed earlier on the "X" platform that Samsung is expected to launch its first foldable smartphone with a triple-screen design in early 2026. Young stated that after Huawei launched the Mate XT with its triple-screen foldable design, Samsung has accelerated the development of a similarly designed phone, but the earliest possible launch date is early 2026. The design and prototypes are expected to be completed by the end of December this year, with the main screen displaying a 10-inch screen when unfolded. Huawei officially unveiled its Mate XT, a three-sided foldable phone with a 10.2-inch display when unfolded.

Huawei officially announced the launch of its Mate XT, a three-sided foldable smartphone, in the Chinese market. It is the world's first three-sided foldable smartphone to enter mass production. The phone is only 3.6mm thick at its thinnest point, with a 10.2-inch screen when flat and a 6.4-inch screen when folded, with a thickness of 12.8mm. The total display area when both screens are open is 7.9 inches, and the overall screen resolution is 2234 x 3184. To create the Mate XT, Huawei adopted a dual-track hinge design. This design uses an integrated linkage to reduce the movement space of the outer hinge and an embedded sliding rail to reduce the hinge angle of the inner hinge, providing support for the screen when flat and ensuring normal operation of the display. The screen itself uses an OLED display panel and is made of a multi-directional concave-folding flexible material to withstand the stretching and compressive forces required for a three-sided concave-folding phone to fold outwards and inwards simultaneously. The hinge is made of rocket steel with a deformation resistance of 1900MPa. However, Huawei has not disclosed the lifespan of the hinge or the number of times the screen can be used in a normal concave-folding manner. The Mate XT weighs 298 grams and uses a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication. It comes in two colors: Rhinestone Red and Black. The processor specifications have not been announced, but it supports 5G connectivity. It has 16GB of RAM and comes with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. The battery is a 5600mAh capacity, supporting 66W wired fast charging, 5W reverse charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W wireless reverse charging. The camera features an 800-megapixel front-facing camera, while the rear main camera boasts a 5000-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 1200-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 1200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, supporting up to 5.5x optical zoom. The Mate XT will be endorsed by Andy Lau and will be available for pre-order in the Chinese market starting today, with a starting price of RMB 19999 and a maximum price of RMB 23999. Currently, besides Huawei's three-sided screen concave-folding phone, other manufacturers including Xiaomi, OPPO, and TECNO also plan to launch products with the same design.
