Relevant news indicates that Samsung Display, a subsidiary of Samsung, acquired Cynora GmbH, a display equipment startup based in Bruchsal, Germany, for approximately US$3 million, thereby acquiring its OLED screen technology and related technical patents.
According to Bloomberg NewsCynora GmbH has recently dissolved its members because the transaction does not seem to include engineering and technical personnel, but only covers OLED screen technology and related technical patents.
Samsung has already invested in Cynora GmbH alongside LG and other companies. Following this transaction, Cynora GmbH may be incorporated into Samsung Display, which is also expected to alter existing external partnerships.
Samsung's acquisition of Cynora GmbH is clearly intended to acquire its concave OLED display technology, which also includes technologies that enhance color contrast and reduce overall power consumption by using blue and green light. This will strengthen Samsung's display technology development in mobile phones, TVs, and other products.
Recent rumors have revealed that Samsung is expected to launch a new foldable screen mobile phone this year, which is expected to make the fold marks smaller and significantly improve durability.
