A new company founded by two former Meta employees SandbarSandbar recently unveiled its first product, the AI smart ring "Stream Ring," which is now available for pre-order. Sandbar describes Stream as "your extended self," emphasizing its minimalist design, which allows users to record voice notes at any time via the built-in touch microphone and interact with an AI chatbot.
"Voice Mouse" Concept: Not for constant listening, but for touch-activated operation.
The core function of the Stream Ring is real-time voice note-taking. It doesn't operate on an "always listening" basis; instead, the microphone is activated only when the user presses and holds the touchpad on the ring. To pause or re-encode recording, a single tap is sufficient. Once recording is complete, the ring provides haptic feedback for confirmation.
Sandbar hopes people will see the Stream Ring as a "mouse for voice," emphasizing that the ring's shape makes it always available and accessible, allowing for immediate recording of inspiration.
Sandbar claims that its microphones can clearly pick up the user's voice even in noisy rooms. Furthermore, all voice interactions are automatically transcribed and synced to the Stream app via Bluetooth (though initially only iOS is supported).
AI assistant "Inner Voice": can mimic the user's voice
In addition to one-way voice notes, Stream Ring also supports deeper two-way conversations with AI chatbots.
One of its unique features is called "Inner Voice," which, by default, allows the AI assistant to attempt to respond by mimicking the user's own voice.
Sandbar stated that if users feel the imitated voice is inaccurate or that the design "creeps you out," they can switch back to the non-personalized standard voice at any time.
Supports gesture control, but lacks health tracking functionality.
In addition to its core voice functionality, the Stream Ring can also be used for gesture control to operate media playback (such as music and podcasts) and is compatible with any brand of headphones.
In terms of hardware design, the Stream Ring is designed to be worn on the index finger and is available in sizes 5-13. Sandbar promises "all-day battery life" but has not disclosed specific battery capacity or battery life hours.
It's worth noting that the smart ring market is becoming increasingly crowded, but most products (such as Ora) focus on health tracking. Stream Ring, however, has clearly chosen a different path, completely lacking health detection features and instead focusing on AI voice input and assistant experience.
Subscription model: The free version limits AI interaction; the Pro version costs $10 per month.
Sandbar uses a freemium subscription model:
• Free Plan:It includes unlimited note storage, but the number of interactions (chats) with the AI is limited.
• Stream Pro solution: $10 USD per month (approximately NT$320). Offers unlimited AI chat and immediate access to all new features (a 3-month free trial is included with every ring purchase).
Sandbar also emphasized privacy, stating that user data is encrypted both at rest and during transmission, personal data will not be sold, and users can delete data in the app at any time.
Listing Information
The Stream Ring is now available for pre-order with a suggested retail price of $249 (approximately NT$8000). It is expected to ship first in the US market in the summer of 2026.
