Spotify recently quietly testednew function, allowing users to record, edit, and distribute podcast content directly through the Spotify app.
This feature will only be tested in New Zealand and allows users to create podcast content without using additional tools, which is meant to enhance the stickiness of Spotify app users.

Previously, Spotify allowed users to create podcasts using resources like Anchor, which it acquired in 2019. However, users had to use additional software services and even, for better sound quality, required additional hardware to receive the audio. The new feature being tested is clearly intended to allow users to create podcasts directly within the Spotify app.
According to Spotify, during the test, users simply tap the "+" icon in the upper right corner of Spotify's "Music Library" to select "Create Playlist" or "Record Podcast." After selecting "Record Podcast," users can record using a simple interface. Users can also pause the recording process, edit it later, and even select available tracks for background music. They can also create a title and description for the podcast, as well as tag other podcast content and songs.
It is currently unclear when Spotify plans to open this feature to the public, nor is it clear whether it will also provide podcast content listening data analysis reports.
In a recently released test feature, Spotify plans to allow users to turn on karaoke mode, allowing users to sing songs "on demand" through its service. This is obviously also to increase the stickiness of its service usage.
