Spotify recently started offering paid subscriptions to iOS users.Issue a notice, stating that it will no longer use Apple’s in-app payment method as a payment channel for service subscriptions.
After the last charge of the current subscription service, users who originally subscribed to Spotify through the payment method within the Apple App Service will be automatically switched to the free version supported by advertising content. Users must re-subscribe after switching to the free version in order to continue using the paid version service.
Prior to this, Spotify had already informed new users that they could subscribe directly through its official website, thereby avoiding the additional commission fees that Apple would charge for subscribing directly within the app. Even though Apple later lowered its commission calculation method, Spotify still believes that this is unfair to itself and its consumers.
Currently, in the Android platform version, Google provides optional third-party payment options for subscription services such as Spotify, allowing users to pay through more channels, thereby reducing disputes over commission collection within applications.
