Spotify announced a partnership with Riot Games, making Spotify the exclusive and first global music service provider for Riot Games' game "League of Legends."
In addition to providing music content, Spotify will also launch a new "League of Legends World Series Music" category option, and will also produce a podcast series including behind-the-scenes footage of the World Series theme song, as well as a curated music playlist.
This collaboration was driven by the fact that the official League of Legends soundtrack on Spotify accumulates over 480 million listeners per month. Furthermore, League of Legends is the world's most widely used esports game, with all tournaments held in 37 cities across five continents last year. The 2019 World Cup finals achieved an average of 2180 million online views per minute. Therefore, Spotify expects this collaboration to drive further user growth and content usage.
As part of this partnership, Spotify will create content within the service, including the League of Legends Official Playlist and the League of Legends: Road to Worlds 2020 playlist. It will also launch a nine-episode series, including "Untold Stories: Top Moments from Worlds," which is expected to air before the 2020th League of Legends World Championship this fall.
In the podcast content, users will be able to hear more about top players and theme songs through game selections, recorded interviews, game sound effects, and interviews with new players. It will also allow users to take a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the "League of Legends" World Championship theme song, which is scheduled to be officially performed at the opening ceremony of the 10th "League of Legends" World Championship.
