OnThere were many rumors beforeAfterwards, Sony finally announced that it will launch the slim PlayStation 11 game console in the US, Europe, UK and Japan markets in November this year, further significantly reducing the size and weight, and increasing the built-in storage capacity to 5TB. The built-in UHD BD disc drive adopts a detachable design and is available in optical disc and digital versions. Disc drive expansion accessories are also available separately.
Compared to the previously released PlayStation 5, the slim model has a volume reduction of over 30%, while the disc drive version and digital model version have a weight reduction of 18% and 24% respectively.
The exterior features a glossy upper surface and a matte lower surface. The right side of the body houses the optical drive installation space. The optical drive version has a built-in UHD BD drive, while the digital version retains expansion space for future installation of optical drive accessories.
Overall, the thinner models adopt a more uniform design, which will make it easier for Sony to mass-produce them while reducing production costs.
The internal space has been further increased to 1TB. In addition, the front USB port has been changed from the original USB-A and USB-C design to two sets of USB-C, but one set still maintains the USB 2 connection specification, mainly used for connecting and charging peripheral accessories such as the DualSense controller.
Additionally, the stand accessory has been redesigned and is only suitable for horizontal placement. If you prefer to place the console upright, you must purchase a separate vertical stand accessory.
The new console is expected to be launched in the US, Europe, UK and Japan markets in November this year, and will replace the existing PlayStation 11 console.
In terms of suggested retail prices, the optical disc drive version in the US market will be sold at US$499.99, and the digital model version will be sold at US$449.99. The expansion UHD BD disc drive accessory will be priced at US$79.99, and the vertical stand accessory will be sold at US$29.99.
