Sony announced today (8/11) that the recently announcedWH-1000XM4 full-face noise-canceling headphonesIt will be launched in Taiwan at NT$10900 and will be available for sale from now on.
According to Sony, the design of the WH-1000XM4 focuses on the user experience and sound-related algorithm adjustments. In addition to adjusting the earmuff angle and frame design to better suit wearing needs, the appearance of the headphones is also reduced to a less plastic feel. The QN1000 noise reduction chip previously used in the WH-3XM1 is combined with the new Bluetooth 5.0 chip design to make the ambient sound noise reduction performance more significant.
This time, DSEE Extreme digital sound quality restoration technology has been added to the WH-1000XM4, allowing users to restore digital sound performance with higher sound quality. At the same time, personalized sound EQ settings are also compatible with LDAC and DSEE Extreme, which means that when users turn on such functions, they can also customize their personal sound listening needs.
In addition, the more obvious update this time is the addition of 360 Reality Audio sound technology, which allows users to identify personal ear characteristics and output sound performance that is more suitable for personal listening.
In terms of functionality, a proximity sensor and motion sensor have been added to the inside of the earmuffs to identify the user's wearing status. When the headphones are removed from the head, the music is automatically paused and resumed when they are put back on. Using a deep learning mechanism, the WH-1000XM4 can even use the Speak to Chat function to determine if the user begins speaking. This automatically pauses the music and disables the noise cancellation function, allowing users to communicate directly with others while still wearing the headphones, without having to remove them.
According to Sony's description, the Speak to Chat function mainly uses a large amount of artificial intelligence calculations and deep learning, and is equipped with an additional microphone on the headset for accurate voice pickup. When it determines that the user is no longer talking, it will resume playing music and the noise reduction effect after 30 seconds. However, this function may still be triggered due to misjudgment, so an additional double-click on the outside of the right earmuff has been added to resume the music playback function.
In terms of other functions, the WH-1000XM4 also provides a function for learning commonly used positions and movements, adjusting the usage of the headphones according to different situations, and adding the function of connecting to two devices at the same time. The earmuff touch operation function also retains the ability to temporarily reduce the playback volume by pressing, while automatically activating the ambient call function, and can quickly pair with a mobile phone through NFC sensing.
The controls include swiping up on the ear cup surface to increase the volume, swiping down to decrease the volume, swiping forward to skip to the next song, and swiping backward to replay the previous song. There are also double-clicking to pause playback, answer or hang up calls, and long pressing to call the Google Assistant or Alexa digital assistant service operation gestures.
