Sony recently announced the launch of the new full-frame FX2 (ILME-FX2) model in its Cinema product line. The FXXNUMX boasts the autofocus performance inherited from the α series and the use of professional movie camera-grade S-Cinetone film color science technology. It also features an optical image stabilization system, an XLR grip for handheld shooting, and an advanced heat dissipation structure. Furthermore, the new adjustable viewfinder design and optimized operation make film shooting easier and allow for more flexible shooting angles.
The FX2 is equipped with a 3300-megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R full-frame sensor, which can achieve a dynamic range of up to 3+ stops when shooting in S-Log15 format, thereby presenting delicate highlight and shadow details. It also has built-in dual native ISO (800 / 4000), allowing creators to obtain optimal image quality performance under different lighting conditions. The video ISO can be expanded up to 102400, which is suitable for shooting in low-light environments.
The focus function has added a new "Real-time Recognition AF" function, which can quickly and stably track portraits and improve subject recognition performance. The newly added "Auto" mode makes it easier to detect subjects such as humans, animals, airplanes and cars. In addition, designs such as focus breathing compensation, AF Assist, and adjustable focus transition speed and sensitivity have been added. Dynamic Active Mode and "Active Mode" modes have been added to make the picture more stable when shooting handheld. In addition, functions such as "Auto Framing" and "Framing Stabilizer" can also assist shooting.
The FX2 has also added a "Log Shooting" menu, which supports shooting high-definition images suitable for post-production color grading. It also has a MOVIE/STILL switch lever for quickly switching between photo and video modes. At the same time, it can automatically display the corresponding menu according to the shooting mode. As for long pressing the Fn key, it can also quickly display and switch shooting modes, thereby improving operational efficiency.
The FX2 supports a variety of video recording formats and post-production workflows, offering 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra recording, as well as support for multiple formats such as XAVC SI DCI 4K@24p. It also features a built-in active cooling fan and optimized heat dissipation structure, enabling long-term stable shooting. The maximum recording time at 4K 60p is up to 13 hours.
In addition, FX2 offers a variety of variable frame rates, including 4K 60fps (approximately 2.5x slow motion) and Full HD 120fps (corresponding to up to 5x slow motion), supports Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, Flexible ISO and other modes, and can import up to 16 sets of custom LUTs, and can preview colors in real time, allowing precise control of live images.
The default setting is S-Cinetone color style, and multiple Picture Profiles and Creative Look modes are built in, allowing you to switch to a movie texture with one click. It also supports 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic lens decompression display functions for precise composition.
FX2 ContinuationFX3,FX30The flat-top body design has three built-in UNC 1/4-20 screw holes, which can be directly connected to a tripod or paired with a dedicated carrying handle (model XLR-H1) for convenient handheld dynamic shooting. At the same time, the body size is only 129.7 x 77.8 x 103.7mm and weighs only 679 grams, making it suitable for single-person operations or small team mobile use.
The camera features a new 368 million pixel adjustable electronic viewfinder, with a viewing angle specifically designed for photography. A deep eyecup facilitates viewing in bright sunlight. A 3-inch flip-up touchscreen allows for intuitive confirmation of composition, and a tally lamp is included. In combination with the XLR-H1 operating handle, it also features dual XLR/TRS and 3.5mm microphone inputs, enabling 4-channel, 24-bit professional digital audio recording.
Other connection ports include a built-in HDMI Type-A interface that can output up to 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit format video and 16-bit RAW signals. It also supports network and data transmission, supports dual-band Wi-Fi and wired network ports, and supports live streaming while powering.
The FX2 will be available in two versions: a body-only design or one that comes with an XLR shooting handle set. It is expected to be launched in Taiwan in mid-July this year, and the new camera's launch price and other information are expected to be announced at that time.
