Sony Interactive Entertainment announced earlier that it would integrate SN Systems, which it acquired in 2005 and originally operated as a wholly-owned subsidiary, into its existing system. The relevant adjustments are expected to take effect officially on April 4 this year.
SN Systems originally maintained independent operation and provided content development tools and resources for the PlayStation platform. The main purpose of announcing its integration into the Sony Interactive Entertainment system is to further improve operational efficiency and accelerate the pace of innovation in PlayStation content and services.
In the past, SN Systems has provided development tools for platforms including previous PlayStation game consoles, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation VR and PlayStation VR2. It was founded in 1990 and is headquartered in Bristol, UK.
Before being acquired by Sony Computer Entertainment, the predecessor of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in 2005, SN Systems provided development tools for game consoles such as the Atari ST, Amiga, SEGA Saturn, SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive), Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS.
The announcement of the complete integration of SN Systems into Sony Interactive Entertainment is obviously related to Sony's recent development strategy of continuously implementing resource restructuring to simplify and centralize its operating structure.
