Sony has recently quietly lifted restrictions on its PC games on Steam, with games including "God of War: Ragnarok," "The Last of Us Part II Remastered," "Spider-Man 2," and "Helldivers II" now available in most countries around the world.
Prior to this, Sony had required players to link their Steam accounts with their PlayStation Network accounts, resulting in their games listed on the Steam service platform being unable to be listed in 177 countries and regions because the PlayStation Network service was not available in these countries and regions.
However, with the release of the PC version of "Sword Star" on June 6 and its entry into the Steam service platform, Sony relaxed the restriction that the game must be logged into a PlayStation Network account, making logging in through a PlayStation Network account an optional item. As a result, the number of players of the PC version of "Sword Star" peaked at nearly 11 in the first week.
In addition to Swordstar, PC games including God of War: Ragnarok, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Spider-Man 2 can also be played without logging into a PlayStation Network account. However, games including Ghost of Tsushima and Until Dawn still require a PlayStation Network account to play.
It is not clear why Sony adjusted its PlayStation Network account linking policy, but data shows that reducing account linking has indeed led to a significant increase in the overall number of game players.
