Sony Semiconductor Solutions has announced the launch of a collection module that can collect electromagnetic noise energy and convert it into electricity that can be used to operate or charge low-power IoT devices.
This module can convert electromagnetic noise generated by electronic devices such as home appliances, PCs, lighting equipment, vending machines, elevators, automobiles, and industrial machinery into electricity through a high-conversion-rate rectifier circuit. By using the metal parts of the electronic devices as transmission antennas, this electromagnetic noise with frequencies between a few Hz and 100 MHz can be converted into electricity. This can then be used to power low-power IoT devices or to replenish the power of battery-operated low-power IoT devices.
This technology is part of Sony's investment in sustainable development and can also be used as a future IoT application technology, and can effectively recycle and utilize electromagnetic wave noise.
The module itself adopts a streamlined design and is only about 7mm in size.2, thereby reducing the internal space occupied by IoT devices and can be widely used in factory production lines, offices, store aisles, and home environments, allowing many low-power IoT devices to continue operating by converting electricity through electromagnetic wave noise, while also reducing the difficulty of building and deploying IoT devices.
In addition to providing continuous power to devices, this technology can also be used to detect whether IoT devices are operating normally. For example, by confirming whether lighting equipment is turning on normally through voltage changes, maintenance personnel can quickly determine whether the device needs maintenance.
Sony plans to use this technology to expand the development of IoT applications and also hopes to collaborate with more companies.
