Sony today (July 7th) released the RX15R III, a full-frame compact camera that has been absent for nearly a decade. As the latest successor to the RX1 series, this camera retains the classic compact body design and fully integrates theα7C RIt features a class-leading 6100-megapixel full-frame back-illuminated sensor and the BIONZ XR image processor, as well as enhanced AI focus and video recording capabilities, targeting high-end photography enthusiasts and mobile imaging creators.
The RX1R III's biggest highlight is its 6100-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor, providing up to 15 stops of dynamic range and low-light performance from ISO 100–32000. Paired with the classic Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 prime lens, it maintains the RX1 series' dual commitment to image quality and portability.
In terms of focusing technology, RX1R III adoptsa9 IIIThe same level of AI autofocus system has 693 phase detection focus points, instant recognition of faces, eyes, animals, insects, vehicles and other subjects, and is equipped with a high-speed focus tracking algorithm, making it suitable for street photography and fast composition scene applications.
This generation adds a new focal length simulation function, which can be cropped to simulate 50mm (2900 million pixels) and 70mm (1500 million pixels) focal lengths within the camera body. It also provides Sony's new "Creative Looks" color style setting, simulating traditional film and instant film styles, allowing creators to quickly achieve stylized imaging effects.
In terms of video recording specifications, the RX1R III supports 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 image shooting and Full HD video at up to 120fps. It also supports S-Cinetone color science, active image stabilization, personalized LUT application and Slow & Quick shooting functions. The body provides external expansion ports such as USB-C, micro HDMI and microphone input.
The exterior design continues the RX1 body style, integrating the original pop-up viewfinder and mechanical dial on the top into a flat top cover, and instead adopting a built-in fixed electronic viewfinder and multi-function hot shoe, and improving the hand grip and touch screen operation smoothness. The back is equipped with a 3-inch fixed touch screen that supports a vertical shooting interface.
Addressing the battery life issues of its predecessor, the RX1R II, the RX1R III uses the now-popular NP-FW50 battery, increasing the number of shots per frame to approximately 520, more than double that of its predecessor. Sony also released accessories such as the TG-1 grip, LCS-RXL leather case, and LHP-2 lens hood specifically for the RX1R III, further enhancing its user experience and aesthetics.
Weighing only approximately 1.1 pounds (approximately 0.5 kilograms), the RX1R III once again challenges the limits of balancing full-frame high image quality with everyday portability. It is suitable for a variety of scenarios such as travel, street photography, or daily documentation, becoming a creative tool for transforming moments into imaging art.
RX1R III將於美國當計時間7月16日起開放預購,建議售價為5099.99美元,TG-2握把售價則是299.99美元,LCS-RXL相機皮套售價為249.99美元,而LHP-1專屬遮光罩售價為199.99美元。
