Sony showcased a variety of content creation technologies during CES 2025, including technologies that use cameras, mobile phones, and previously announced motion capture equipment.mocopy, combined with the 3D animation production technology "XYN" composed of a head-mounted display device, and also demonstrated its immersive interactive experience technology combined with olfactory perception with the theme of "The Last of Us", and announced that many of its game content will be filmed into live-action movies.
Compared to the complex process of producing 3D animation content in the past, Sony hopes to further simplify the production threshold through "XYN" technology.
Creators can use their mobile phones or cameras to capture multi-angle images of objects, and through cloud-based collaborative computing, they can produce corresponding 3D stereoscopic images of the objects. This can then be applied to content scenarios such as movies and games. There is no restriction on the use of Sony brand products, allowing creators to create 3D image content in a simpler way.
The human motion capture kit used in conjunction with mocopi increases the number of sensor devices from 6 to 12 in this solution, thereby improving motion capture accuracy and creating more complex skeletal movements. Human motion capture can also be completed via mobile phones and PCs, making it ideal for small and medium-sized creative businesses to introduce and produce content. However, it must still be used in conjunction with the subscription-based XYN Motion Studio service platform.
As for the commercial head-mounted display SRH-S2024 announced during CES 1 last year, its name was adjusted to XYN Headset (still under development) to match the "XYN" solution. It has an OLED display panel with a single-eye resolution of 4K, and the head-mounted display itself has a see-through function, and the display mechanism can be flipped up to facilitate users to check external conditions more quickly.
According to Sony, creating 3D animation content or motion capture data using the "XYN" solution only takes about 30 minutes and can be completed by a single person.
During CES 2025, Sony also used "The Last of Us" as its theme, using its Crystal LED modular display panels to create a four-dimensional display scene, allowing users to immerse themselves in the game scene, interact with the on-screen content by shining a flashlight, and even fight against the infected in the game with handheld weapons.
In addition to integrating visual and audio interactions, users can also experience real-world interactions through tactile sensations. This solution even incorporates olfactory experiences, allowing users to become more immersed in the gaming environment. This solution is expected to be widely adopted in theme parks and may also be used in more virtual reality interactive experiences.
Meanwhile, Sony also announced at CES 2025 that it will be adapting more of its games into audiovisual content. These include "Bad Boys 2," "Until Dawn," and "Horizon: War of the Dawn," which will all be adapted into live-action films. Ghost of Tsushima's multiplayer mode, "Kitan," is expected to be adapted into an animated work. The second season of the live-action series "The Last of Us," co-produced with HBO, was confirmed at CES 2025 to officially air in April of this year.
