After previously announcing a collaboration with Polyphony Digital and Sony Interactive Entertainment on artificial intelligence technology, Sony AI announced today (February 2) that it will use an artificial intelligence algorithm called "Gran Turismo Sophie" in the upcomingGran Turismo 7 (Gran Turismo 7), thereby presenting a more realistic vehicle driving mode.
"Gran Turismo Sophie" was jointly created by Sony AI, Polyphony Digital, and Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is based on deep learning artificial intelligence algorithms and performed well in the Race Together 7 Challenge virtual events in July and October last year. It even defeated four professional players in the time trial held in October and the FIA Gran Turismo Championship.
In related explanations, Sony AI stated that "Gran Turismo Sophie" is based on deep learning. By understanding the interactive results generated when controlling the vehicle in the game, and understanding the track route through deep learning, it also learns accurate driving techniques by referring to the operation patterns during complex gameplay. It can even learn the best offensive strategies in the race and the methods to avoid collisions during general driving from human operation, rather than just blindly pursuing the fastest completion of the race while ignoring normal driving behavior.
Currently, Sony AI and Polyphony Digital plan to import the "Gran Turismo Sophie" artificial intelligence algorithm into "Gran Turismo 7", and perhaps in the future we will be able to experience a more realistic vehicle driving experience in the game.
