An American electric car startup invested by Amazon founder Jeff BezosSlate, earlier announced its first modular electric pickup truck, and boasted that it was manufactured in the United States.
This electric pickup truck adopts a single-motor design with rear-wheel drive, with a maximum output power of up to 150kW, which corresponds to an output of approximately 201 horsepower, and a torque of up to 264Nm (Newton/meter). The standard version has a battery specification of 52.7kWh, and a large-capacity specification of 84.3kWh is also available. It supports 11kW AC charging or up to 120kW DC fast charging, and adopts the NACS North American charging standard, which can charge from 20% to 80% in half an hour.
Slate boasts that its electric pickup truck has a highly customizable design. It can be converted from a two-seater to a five-seater and offers more than 100 custom accessories. It also uses steel wheels, a knob-type air conditioning system, and hand-cranked windows. It is also not equipped with any entertainment devices, only a universal mobile phone holder and USB charging port, allowing users to use their mobile phones as navigation and entertainment systems, thereby reducing production costs.
Another way to cut costs is to provide DIY kit combinations that consumers can install themselves, thereby reducing the cost of additional assembly, but still retain the service of assembly through the Michigan factory for an additional fee.
Consumers can currently pre-order the electric pickup truck with a $50 deposit, and the first deliveries are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. The original price of the electric pickup truck was set at $25000, but after adding the tax incentives for production in the United States, the starting price has been adjusted to $20000.
