Xiaomi brand was launched last yearMIX Fold, the first foldable phoneAfterwards, Xiaomi officially unveiled the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 at an earlier press conference, touting its thinner, lighter, and more durable design. It also readjusted the screen and concave folding structure design. It also simultaneously launched the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro true wireless earphones and the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro smartwatch.
According to Xiaomi, "thickness" is the key issue they want to improve this time, and they also believe that it is the "last mile" for the popularization of foldable screen phones. Therefore, the newly launched Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 has a thinnest screen of 5.4mm and a thickness of 11.2mm when folded. The overall weight is only 262 grams, making it the lightest foldable screen phone currently launched in the industry.
In addition, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 also simplifies the screen folding mechanism, reducing the total number of parts to 87, while maintaining the original water drop-shaped hinge design. The thickness is reduced to 8.8mm and the weight is reduced by 35%. In addition, a set of carbon fiber plates are added to the fold of the screen, so that when the screen is unfolded, the central fold can be lifted up, making the crease less obvious.
The inner screen features an 8.02-inch display with a 4:3.55 aspect ratio and a 2160 x 1914 resolution. It utilizes Samsung's newly developed ECO² OLED display panel, which emphasizes simplifying traditional OLED laminate materials to make the screen thinner, lighter, and more energy-efficient. It also boasts a brighter display, with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO 2.0 technology, further conserving power. The surface is protected by 0.03mm thick UTG ultra-thin glass.
The outer screen uses a 6.56-inch Samsung E21-grade AMOLED display panel with a 9:5 aspect ratio and a double-sided micro-curved design for a better fit in the hand. It also supports a 120Hz frame refresh rate and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Vitus tempered glass.
In terms of interface interaction, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 uses light source sensors inside and outside to maintain the same brightness and color tone settings for the inner and outer screens. In addition, it also cooperates with the new version of MI UI Fold 13 interface design, which can seamlessly transfer the outer screen operation to the inner screen, while also taking advantage of the larger display area of the inner screen. It does not just extend the screen display content, but provides a user experience that switches from a mobile phone to a tablet, including the addition of easier-to-operate screen splitting, multitasking, or the use of desktop widgets. In addition, it also provides optimized operation modes with more third-party apps.
As for the hardware, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, paired with 12GB LPDDR5 memory, and UFS 256 storage components with 512GB, 1GB or 3.1TB capacities. It also has a larger area of heat dissipation mechanism to maintain a uniform temperature range during use of the phone. The body also retains NFC and infrared remote control modules, and it itself is equipped with a 4500mAh battery capacity and supports 67W wired fast charging.
As for the camera, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 features a 2000-megapixel video camera with a punch-hole design on the outer screen. The main camera is equipped with a 5000-megapixel wide-angle lens with a Sony IMX766 sensor and optical image stabilization, paired with a 1300-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and an 800-megapixel 2x telephoto lens. It also features simulated lenses and filters developed in collaboration with Leica, and uses Xiaomi's own image capture technology, even boasting that it can take selfies with Leica camera effects.
However, apparently in order to allow the inner screen to present a more complete picture, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 does not have a video camera on the inner screen.
In terms of suggested retail price, Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 will be sold with a starting price of RMB 8999, but it is currently only planned to be launched in the Chinese market and is not planned to be launched in markets such as Taiwan.
At this press conference, Xiaomi launched two additional accessories: the Xiaomi Buds 4 Pro true wireless earphones and the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro smartwatch, and also launched a bundle sales combination including a mobile phone, earphones and a watch.
