At a recent technical forum held in China,RISC-V architectureKrste Asanović, the main inventor, chairman of the RISC-V International Foundation, and co-founder and chief architect of SiFive, said that processors designed with the RISC-V architecture will reach 2025 billion by 800 (Editor’s note:Last year's forecast600 billion), and is expected to exceed the application scale of traditional processor architecture in the next 2-3 years.
Furthermore, Krste Asanović anticipates that the RISC-V architecture will usher in an even better processor and application ecosystem. SiFive currently has over 100 clients, including NASA and Google, and its products are widely used in various fields, including artificial intelligence, smart wearables, and automotive systems.
Krste Asanović believes that the processor industry has gradually shifted from horizontally expanding its product lineup to vertically developing in specific areas. This includes more customized computing products designed for specific operations, such as dedicated processors designed for artificial intelligence in certain application areas. The open source RISC-V architecture and its high degree of design freedom are making it more attractive for many industry players to adopt it.
In addition to the x86 and Arm architectures, the market is also increasingly adopting the RISC-V architecture. Even companies like Qualcomm and NVIDIA, which have long used the Arm architecture, are beginning to consider how to create suitable processor products using the RISC-V architecture. Meanwhile, companies including Intel and Samsung are also accelerating the development of RISC-V architecture applications.
