After announcing at the 2024 Game Awards ceremony that it would release a completely new game in the "VR Fighter" series, "New VIRTUA FIGHTER", and that it would be developed by Studio Ryuga no Toro, SEGA earlier provided further explanation through the "VF Direct 2024" live broadcast.
"New VIRTUA FIGHTER" will be led by producer Riichiro Yamada, who has produced games such as "SEGA New Creation Club" and "Devil's Clan". He also emphasized that the new work will focus on innovation and authenticity, making it the most innovative fighting game.
Although specific game details cannot be revealed at this stage, Riichiro Yamada has confirmed that Yuuki Akira and Sarah Bryan, who appear in the trailer, as well as subsequent characters, will be presented in a more delicate and realistic form. In addition, a new fighting system will be added to allow players to be more immersed in the process of fighting.
In conjunction with the announcement of the new game, SEGA also announced that "VR Fighter 5 REVO" will be based on "VR Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown", and will include game balance adjustments and upgrades unique to the Steam version. Many moves and actions have been revised, and new combos and impact effects have been added. In addition, a 30th anniversary edition will be released, which will include many design elements from the game development process.
As for updates to game balance, moves, and other aspects, the previously released "VR Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown" will be upgraded in the form of version 2.0, allowing more players to play with a brand new experience.
In addition, SEGA also plans to hold a world competition event with "Virtual Reality Fighter 5 REVO", which is expected to start in the spring of 2025. It will also become one of the designated events of the EVO Japan 5 event held at Tokyo Big Sight from May 9th to 11th.
At the same time, SEGA plans to announce more information about the "VR Fighter" series at the Frosty Faustings XVII 1 event to be held in Chicago, USA from January 23 to 26 next year.
SEGA also announced the launch of the "Virtual Knight 2" Classic Edition for Xbox and PC platforms, as well as the "Virtual Knight 4 Ultimate Showdown" Collector's Edition for PlayStation 5 and PC platforms, which are expected to be available for pre-order from now on.
