SEGA announced in April this yearAcquired Finnish gaming company RovioThe deal has now been officially completed, with SEGA acquiring RovioApproximately 93.6% equity, the actual transaction amount was approximately US$7.76 million.
As previously stated by SEGA President Osaki Satomi, the acquisition of Rovio Entertainment Oyj will ensure SEGA's ability to develop in the mobile game market, while also attracting more player support through games such as "Angry Birds".
On the other hand, as SEGA begins to expand its content assets beyond games, it is expected to expand market development opportunities such as movies, TV series, and licensed theme peripherals and stores through Rovio's "Angry Birds" series. However, it is not yet confirmed whether new "Angry Birds" series games will be released next, or whether products will be combined with SEGA's existing assets and content.
However, after launching the "Angry Birds" series of games and generating considerable profits through derivative animations and movies, Rovio has not released any subsequent impressive works. Even the subsequent "Angry Birds" games have failed to generate the same level of popularity as the original game. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether there will be any changes after SEGA acquires Rovio.
