Ahead of the Supercomputing 25 conference, Seagate officially launched its next-generation edge enterprise storage solutions—the Seagate Exos 4U100 and 4U74 JBOD systems. These flagship platforms are designed for data center and edge environments. The Exos 4U100, in particular, boasts an impressive 3.2PB of storage capacity within a single high-density chassis, capable of handling the massive data challenges posed by generative AI and distributed storage architectures.
Integrating Mozaic HAMR technology to target petabyte-scale AI workloads.
As generative AI transforms how businesses build and manage data, Seagate cites IDC research indicating that 78% of organizations are generating new types of content, leading to a surge in storage demands.
Both the Seagate Exos 4U100 and 4U74 systems utilize the advanced SAS-4 JBOD architecture and are based on Seagate's latest...Mozaic HAMR technologyIt provides support. This makes it particularly suitable for petabyte-scale AI and machine learning (ML) workloads, such as frequent model checkpoints, long-term storage, and continuous data reception and edge analysis.
Melyssa Banda, Senior Vice President of Seagate's Edge Storage and Services division, said that these new systems are not just for storage, but also to help businesses retain more data for longer in order to assess its future value.
Heat dissipation efficiency improved by 70%, tool-free installation supported
In terms of hardware design, Seagate emphasizes the operational efficiency and flexibility of the new system:
• High-density capacity: The Exos 4U100 offers 3.2PB of storage in a single chassis, supporting current and next-generation hard drives.
• Energy efficiency upgrade: Compared to the previous generation, the official claim is that the heat dissipation efficiency is improved by 70% while the power consumption is reduced by 30%, which is crucial for energy-constrained edge sites.
• Flexible deployment: It supports SAS or SATA interface configurations and is optimized for various rack depths. It adopts a tool-less installation design to simplify the maintenance process.
• Enterprise-level security: It features Secure Boot, Seagate Secure certification, Redfish management capabilities, and complies with data sovereignty regulations.
