Volvo officially launched its all-new all-electric mid-size SUV, The All New Volvo EX60, in Stockholm, Sweden on January 21st. This model not only targets the world's most popular five-seater SUV market but also boasts revolutionary changes in range, charging speed, and computing performance, aiming to transform users' "range anxiety" into "range comfort."
In addition to the standard version, Volvo also launched the more outdoor-oriented Volvo EX60 Cross Country, inheriting the brand's legendary crossover travel genes.
Powered by the all-new SPA3 platform, the range exceeds 800 kilometers.
The Volvo EX60 is built on the new SPA3 electric vehicle platform. By introducing Cell-to-Body battery-body integration technology and Mega Casting large-scale integrated casting technology, it not only reduces the weight of the vehicle but also significantly improves energy efficiency.
In terms of aerodynamics, thanks to its low-drag front end and streamlined roof design, the EX60 achieves a drag coefficient of 0.26 Cd. These technological innovations are reflected in its impressive range figures:
• P12 AWD model:With a maximum range of up to 810 kilometers, it leads its competitors in the same class.
• P10 AWD model:It offers a maximum driving range of 660 kilometers.
• P6 rear-wheel drive model:It can travel up to 620 kilometers.
In terms of charging efficiency, the EX60 supports fast charging devices up to 400kW, which can replenish the battery corresponding to a maximum range of 340 kilometers in just 10 minutes, claiming that you can set off again in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee.
The first "high-IQ" cockpit with built-in Google Gemini AI
Technological prowess is another major highlight of the EX60. This car is equipped with Volvo's self-developed HuginCore core processing system, integrating NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Google technologies, giving the cockpit real-time computing and thinking capabilities.
More importantly, the Volvo EX60 is Volvo's first model to feature Google's new AI assistant, Gemini. This system is deeply integrated into the in-vehicle infotainment platform, enabling personalized conversations in natural language. The interface is responsive and has zero latency, significantly improving the efficiency of user access to functions.
In terms of auditory experience, it is equipped with a top-of-the-line 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system and supports Dolby Atmos technology.
Cross Country launches simultaneously, with safety standards further upgraded.
For car owners who appreciate an outdoor style, the Volvo EX60 Cross Country, which also debuted at the same time, boasts an even more rugged appearance. The front and rear lower bumpers are made of brushed stainless steel for scratch resistance, paired with a robust wheel arch design, showcasing a unique visual tension and a spirit of exploration.
Safety remains at the core of Volvo's philosophy. The EX60 features the world's first Multi-adaptive safety belt, and through the powerful computing capabilities of HuginCore, it integrates sensor data in real time to accurately grasp the vehicle's surrounding environment.
The All New Volvo EX60 is now available for order in Europe and is expected to begin production at the Swedish factory this spring. Deliveries of the P6 and P10 models will begin this summer.
Analysis of viewpoints
The launch of the Volvo EX60 is clearly intended to set a new benchmark in the fiercely competitive pure electric mid-size SUV market (which is also the main battlefield of the Model Y).
In the past, traditional luxury car manufacturers were often criticized for lagging behind tech companies in terms of software and electrical architecture during their electrification transformation. However, the EX60's specifications are quite aggressive: an 810km range and 400kW fast charging directly address physical anxiety; while on the software side, it directly embraces Google Gemini AI and NVIDIA computing power, solving the previous shortcomings in intelligence.
In particular, the Mega Casting technology introduced in the SPA3 platform demonstrates that Volvo has fully absorbed the advantages of emerging car manufacturers in terms of manufacturing processes. If the software stability can be maintained after actual delivery, the EX60 is very likely to become the "complete" model in the luxury pure electric SUV market that balances traditional safety values with next-generation technological experience.
